Common Questions
What should I do if my windshield cracks while driving on I-25 or I-40?
Slow down gradually while staying aware of the traffic around you, and do not brake hard. Move to the nearest shoulder, exit ramp, or lot and put on your hazards. Take a full exit rather than the shoulder where you can, since the shoulders through the Big I and on the Tijeras Canyon grade are narrow. Once stopped, look at the damage: if it crosses your line of sight or runs longer than six inches, do not keep driving. Under NMSA 1978 ยง 66-3-846 an obstructed windshield is citable in New Mexico. Call us at (505) 369-5963. We run same-day mobile service across the metro, so whether you are stopped on I-25 near Bernalillo or on I-40 east of Tramway, we can get to you.
Does my car insurance cover windshield replacement in New Mexico?
Glass damage falls under comprehensive coverage, not liability, so a liability-only policy covers none of it. New Mexico is not a zero-deductible glass state, unlike Florida, Kentucky, and South Carolina, which means your comprehensive deductible applies to a full replacement. Chip repair is usually the exception: most carriers waive the deductible on a resin repair because it costs them far less than replacing the glass. Ask your insurer specifically about glass before you assume it is out of pocket. We document all work thoroughly to make filing straightforward. For more guidance, see our what-to-do guide.
Can you come to my home or office to fix my windshield?
Absolutely. Our mobile technicians cover all eight communities in the metro and bring every tool and material with them. A home up NM-165 in Placitas, an office near UNM, a parking structure in Uptown, a gravel drive in Bosque Farms: we come to you. Most repairs take under two hours on site, and we work around your schedule, weekends included.
